Lake Macquarie City Council has received a request from NSW Roads and Maritime seeking assistance in publicising the upcoming expired flares collection program.

The expired marine flare collection program, which allows the local boating community to safely dispose of expired marine flares, commences on 16 November 2019 and runs to 13 January 2020 and includes collections at 46 locations along the NSW coast from Tweed Heads to Eden.

Collection dates for Lake Macquarie include:

Blacksmiths Boat Ramp, Blacksmiths, 2 - 5.30pm Friday 29th November 2019

Swansea Boat Ramp, Swansea, 12 - 3pm Saturday 11th January 2020

Most flares have a use-by-date of three years, and penalties apply if they are not replaced before the expiry date. It is the responsibility of marine flare owners to dispose of the expired flares in a safe and timely manner.

Your assistance in distributing this information to your respective recreational boating groups would be greatly appreciated, My apologies for any cross posting that you may experience.

If required, the full three-month schedule which includes other locations can view it online at www.rms.nsw.gov.au/flares
